A Firefox extension

NOTE: This extension no longer works in the current version of Firefox. It is provided here for documentation and legacy purposes.

ImagePref is a free Firefox addon. It adds a small checkbox in the right corner of the statusbar of Firefox at the bottom of the screen. Using this checkbox, you can switch between images on and images off. This addon helps you to control easily whether or not images are loaded. In addition, it contains extra features to make browsing with images switched off more easy.

ImagePref features:

  • Show or hide images using a status bar checkbox.
  • Right-click on an image and select "Load Image" to load a particular image.
  • Hide Flash, Java, HTML5 video, audio, and canvas elements (optional)
  • Compatible with Firefox 3, up to Firefox 19

In Firefox 4, the ImagePref checkbox is located on the Add-on bar. Press Ctrl+/ to show the Add-on bar.

Additional characteristics:

  • The shortkey Ctrl+Alt+I also switches images on or off.
  • Show or hide images without reloading the page (*)
  • Hides inline images when images are off
  • Supplies default alternative text for images when images are off (*)
  • Optional context-menu entries to set the background color to black or white. (*)

(*) This does not work in all circumstances.
